That is one very well racked bull elk! I would love to see him standing broadside with the velvet gone. The biggest bull I have ever seen in the wild on public ground mind you, I would guess go around the 370-380 range and that is a whopper. A 300 score bull on public ground is one heck of a trophy in my eyes.;)

There's a lot of talk about this on other forums. The hunter paid something like $100 K to the outfitter (some estimates are are high as $600K) who then put a small army of men in the field to keep track of the elk. On opening morning, they had the guy sitting there ready to shoot at 1st light. It was on public land and anyone with a tag could have shot it, but only a fool would have tried. There was too much money involved. It could have got rough.

Hi Ball,

I'm fairly confident that I could take you out on public ground not far from where I live and show you two 400+ bulls without too much difficulty. We see those two regularly in early winter here.
Utah's limited entry managment units (on public ground) are growing some amazing bulls. The Spider bull was just one of them.
Believe it or not, 350 to 380 bulls are relatively common now. I saw four different bulls during the spike hunt that would have easily exceeded 350.

Someone in the know told me the spyder bull was taken on private property and was being feed... so i'm not so sure this was really sport hunting.... my best guess is that it was akin to shooting a fish in a barrel

[I] can't categorically state that is untrue. However, as many people as were apparently involved and as many opportunities for loose lips as that would represent I would expect charges to follow if true.

As much as antlered trophies seem to be investigated and almost maliciously prosecuted I think I would prefer to pass on one if the opportunity was provided.

there a plenty of pictures of it while it was alive... not saying it was hand fed but probably had a feed area well supplied for it... the hunter paid big bucks for the "hunt".. taken a few minutes after the season open so i heard... draw your own conclusions.

Well if in fact between $100,000 and $500,000 million were spent to have people in the field looking for the animal I would likely reach the conclusion that all that could be accomplished without feed to include plenty of live pictures and a quick kill.

Of course not knowing a thing about your source other than you trust it does not tell me much. Given the wild eyed claims you have made in the past about political figure based upon what I assume are sources you trust I am leary of this one as well. Right now it looks like it could just be jealous mud slinging.

Of course if I am wrong I will gladly say so. But given how quickly Game Agencies move to announce investigations and charges when a truly large whitetail is killed I would think news of anything ongoing would be out in the public realm now.

Reread that post just now and its too late to edit. That figure should be $100,000 to $500, 000 vice $100,000 TO $500,000 MILLION. I suspect I had 1/2 a million on the noodle.:o
