The farm we hunt is way out by the water gap, and that means that its not possible for me to get any weekday late day hunts in. I'd get a lot more time in the woods if I could hunt from 4 to dark a couple days a week instead of relying on saturdays.
Anyone know of a decent spot near morris/bergen county along the 208/287 area where a muzzle loader hunter wouldnt be out of line?
deer & coyote woudl be the game in mind.
The rt23 watershed property is just a little too far, once you get through the home depot traffic.
thanks in advance.
You got a link to a map of the area you're looking at?
I drive from Hoboken up the Palisades Pkwy to about 287 every damn day... Not the first flippin' clue if I'm blowing through any huntable areas, but I sure wouldn't mind stopping off for an hour or two of after-work stand time, myself....

I am basically looking at the 202 & 287 corridor running north-south from approx Mahwah or Oakland down to about route 80 in Parsippany, including a little bit east-west on 80, 46, 511 or a few other roads along that strip.
there is land ON 287 in kinnelon, montville, riverdale, and pequonnock I am really interested getting into. I have to do some homework.
Everything to the east of that 287/202 north-south line is zone 36 (http://www.state.nj.us/dep/fgw/derzones.htm), and to the west is zone 3 and then 6. You can download a PDF zone map HERE (http://www.state.nj.us/dep/fgw/deer.htm) , which may be easier than the descriptions linked above. Just scroll down a few paragraphs and there's a link to zone maps PDF's.
You can see a nice chunk of land up route 23, but 23 is getting into some snarly traffic around rush hour.
In THIS (http://www.mapquest.com/maps?city=Boonton&state=NJ&zipcode=07005&country=US&latitude=40.9117&longitude=-74.4152&geocode=ZIP) map, you can easily follow route 287 from its intersection with route 208 heading southwest, past route 23, then to 80, east to about Pinebrook or so. that big arc is the region in which I ma looking.
I thought I'd take a shot in the dark on here... but I think I'll have to do the local legwork.
This one? Or are you looking at the park there just over 280 to the northeast?
On both of 'em, it seems like you can see deer trails on the aerial shots, but more likely those are two-legger tracks.
Any idea what all those circles are? They look like mold/bacteria colonies in a petri dish
Sink-holes, more likely, I suppose....
Either way, those areas are a lot closer than I realized at first. I'd have to bolt kinda early to beat the traffic, I suppose, but I'm just over by the Lincoln tunnel... It's not that far when I look at it.
