I do not think these results are quiet as significant as you might wish to believe NC.

In the New York case the state party must have been wacked out the night they selected Dede Scozzafava to run. There was no primary by which she was selected, but rather a simple appointment by party leaders as the candidate. As a supporter of gay marriage, abortion, and other liberal causes she could hardly be called mainstream Republican. By the way she has dropped out of the race as of this morning.

What did make Doug Hoffman viable was directly a result of the actions of a mainstream party. Without that support he would not have been a blip on the radar. Supported by a number of prominant Republicans against Scozzafava he became basically an alternative Repulican candidate more than an independent. In fact with Dede's resignation it took Micheal Steele about a nano second to throw the national parties support to Hoffman who is now an independent in name only.

In the New Jersey case Dagget is at this point little more than a spoiler since he has no chance to win. In fact even with him in Christie is neck and neck with Corrizine, perhaps the most corrupt politician not in jail at the moment. That had been possible only because the Democratic party has outspent both other candidates combined by tremendous amounts including Corrizine throwing about $20 million of his own into the campaign.

Therefore Dagget more resembles the big eared quack from IBM who split the vote to give us Bill Clinton. However, this morning I heard he is starting to slip in the polls as elections near and voters are deciding not to squander their vote. So he is really nothing new but one more example of the argument agaist third party viability.

    -in NY she could.

Remember the Republican Hilary ran against in her last senate race?

Nobody else does, either; a statement to the effectiveness the Republican party in NY enjoys.

The NY Republican party is a joke, made all the more laughable by George Pataki, Clown-in-Chief prior to Skeevy Spitzer and the blind m**********r.

Hoffman in NY is a breath of fresh air, a true conservative, and maybe, maybe, the start of a wave of sanity that will wash through the Republican Party.

I sent him twenty bucks, there's still a day or two left to donate.

I am laughing at New York this morning. It says Scozzafava has endorsed the Democrat despite the fact that the National Republican Party is backing the conservative. I suspect her feelings are hurt. If she stays in politics she needs to either have an awakening or follow Arlan Spector.

On the bright side that "Republican" district that voted for Obama and for Hillary Clinton for the Senate seems to have woke up for the moment. The poll announced on FOX news this morning shows the Democratic candidate behind 38% to 54%.
